Yes, the MagSafe Car Mount Air Vent Clip Magnetic Ball Joint holds any MagSafe iPhone by magnet, from the iPhone 12 to recent models, bare or in a MagSafe-compatible case. For an older iPhone or a case without a magnet, you need to add an adhesive metal ring.
Does the mount hold on a bumpy road?
Yes, the magnetic face holds the MagSafe iPhone and the clip with reinforced jaws stays tight on the slat. A thick case or one without a magnet reduces the grip: a MagSafe case is preferable.
Which air vents does it attach to?
To vents with flat slats, horizontal or vertical. The manufacturer excludes round vents and those with unusual shapes, where the clip does not tighten properly.
Can it be used with an iPhone without a MagSafe magnet?
Yes, by sticking to the back of the phone or case the metal plate listed in the pack, or an adhesive metal ring. The grip is then weaker than with a MagSafe iPhone.
Can the iPhone be placed in portrait and landscape?
Yes, the ball joint lets you turn the iPhone to the direction you want and tilt it, for the sat nav as well as for a video when stationary.
How do I install and remove it?
Push the clip onto a slat of the vent until the jaws tighten. To remove it, gently pull the mount towards you, with one hand and no tools.
Does the mount damage the air vent?
No, the clip rests on the slat with no glue or drilling. The manufacturer states a reinforced version with a silicone lining, to limit marks.
Does the mount charge the iPhone?
No, it is a magnetic mount with no charging. To recharge while driving, connect the iPhone with a cable to the car's socket or USB port.
Does the airflow from the vent affect the iPhone?
Yes, a flow of hot air warms the iPhone. Close the vent or direct it so that it does not blow directly on the phone.
